A five-session online course offering an in-depth consideration of the sonnet form. From Shakespeare and Petrarch to Carol Ann Duffy, Don Paterson, Terrance Hayes and 2021 Costa Prize Winner Hannah Lowe the sonnet remains an attractive and versatile container for poetic thought and movement. You will learn about the ‘traditional’ structure of sonnets alongside looking at many contemporary sonnets which expand and adapt the form. There will be weekly homework exercises, feedback on a couple of your sonnets (if you wish) and a final session where you can read and share some of what you have written during the course.

Week One: Tuesday 01/03/22, 7-9pm.
Week Two: Tuesday 08/03/22, 7-9pm.
Week Three: Tuesday 15/03/22, 7-9pm.
Week Four: Tuesday 22/03/22, 7-9pm.
Week Five: Tuesday 29/03/22, 7-9pm.
Cost: £125.00 for the course.
For an extra £25.00 you can receive a limited amount of feedback on some of your homework (3 sonnets).

"So Much Space Around You": The Spirituality of Walking
Join me this April at Othona, Dorset, for several days of walking and thinking about walking. We will consider extracts by numerous writers who have written about walking, including Raynor Winn, Robert MacFarlane, Thomas C. Clark, Rebecca Solnit, and many more, and we will also walk both on the coast and inland.
