Helen Dunmore’s poem ‘Glad of these times’ invites us repeatedly to find the good in the times we live in, often through noticing and being grateful for things we can easily overlook or find wanting. Join me for two online poetry workshops this month where we will consider this and other poems as ways of responding to the challenges of the world we are living in and the challenges of our own lives. We will read poems together and there will be opportunities for discussion. Some of the poems will be used as prompts for your own writing or private reflection within the session. We will pay attention to the strategies poems use to create what Serbian poet Ivan V. Lalić calls “spaces of hope” and we will harness material from our own lives and contexts to make new ones.

When: Tuesday 21st January and Tuesday 28th January 2025, 7-9pm.

Where: Online, via Zoom.

Who for: Poets of all levels. You’re also very welcome if you’d like to enjoy some close reading of poems with other thoughtful readers and writers (though note that some time will specifically be given to invite new writing).
